2016 Fall Semester Welcome
Hey all you awesome New Media peoples!
As you can probably tell, the New Media Arts Council now has its very own website. Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to make this possible. The site is still undergoing construction in order to bring more resources and cool things to the New Media department, and NewMAC welcomes suggestions for stuff you'd find useful or interesting. Let us know what you want to see more of in the content, and tell us ways we can improve the layout or the way student work is displayed.

Special Announcements
Professor Cloninger will be taking a well-earned break from teaching for a semester. At the time this website was made, we didn't know who would be teaching in his place, but we look forward to welcoming the new faculty member!
Another big announcement is that the faculty and NewMAC members have been working since Spring 2015 to acquire better means to display student work in what little space is available in Zeis. There's been a lot of delays and issues with funding approval, but hopefully the HD monitor might finally be ready this Fall. Fingers crossed!

River Arts Makers Place
A 12,000 square ft studio space in the River Arts District will allow creative collaboration between students in Art, Engineering, Computer Science, and New Media. This space will be set up primarily for manufactuing and prototyping, but there is potential to do a lot of other cool stuff as well. Equipment includes a CNC plasma cutter, table router, mill, lathe, laser cutter, 3D printer, water jet, and engraver. Additional space for art studios and a second story computer lab are also available.
A second larger facility(CCE) is planned to open in 2018.

NewMAC Meeting Times
Feel free to drop by any meetings or special events. We really appreciate the support and would love to meet more people. Meeting times TBA.

New Media Open Source Web Project
Creating a student-run website is something NewMAC has been wanting to do for a while since it will enable students to freely manage and display their own digital work and allow everyone in the department access to a creative network pertaining specifically to New Media interests. Anyone interested in helping out is welcome.

Check out the UNCA New Media page to share interesting stuff, ask questions, or leave comments. There is also a NewMAC Facebook page. Both pages contain a plethora of interesting links and uploads posted by students and alumni.

Social Media Channels
Our YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, and Pinterest accounts are presently rather empty, but hopefully they won't stay that way for long! We hope to eventually add some tutorials, guest speakers, and student workshops. The Vimeo and YouTube channels will likely be used for displaying any online student videos.

Conventions
Last semester NewMAC sponsored a really awesome fieldtrip to the East Coast Gaming Conference in Raleigh, and we would like to continue sponsoring trips to conventions, film festivals, or conferences. Come talk to us if interested.

Displaying Student WorkThe New Media Arts Council accepts art submissions at certain times during the semester. Please read the submission guidelines to make it easier for us to format your work for gallery or web display. For any video entries, we would ask that you send a link from your YouTube or Vimeo account, or alternatively grant permission to upload the file to one of the New Media channels.

Officer Positions
NewMAC is always looking for extra volunteering help. Officer duties are flexible based on your schedule, and we try to ensure that officer roles offer a lot of creative freedom rather than just being extra assigned work. It's never too late to join! Plus, we occasionally have cookies!
